Top photo does have some action, but it's the placement of the subject, the color isolation and the numerous dinner boxes that make this a striking picture. I see the person in the background distracting on the other shot, and I like to avoid pointing. Bottom photo is very clean and simple, just what makes it more attractive to viewers.
